The programme offers very good graduates with a first university degree the chance to obtain a Master’s degreein disciplines that are of special relevance for the social, political and economic development of their home country. With the knowledge and experience acquired in Germany the scholarship holders should later contribute to the establishment of democratically oriented economic and social systems aimed at overcoming social tensions. Inaddition, the training at German institutions of higher education should especially qualify the scholarship holders as partners in political and economic cooperation with Germany. With this programme, DAAD intends to contribute to the support of Good Governance and civil society structures in selected partner countries and regions.
Who can apply?
The scholarship scheme is open to candidates from Africa, Latin America, South Asia, Southeast Asia as well as from countries in the Middle East. Target group Very well qualified graduates with a first university degree (Bachelor or equivalent) who in the future want to actively contribute to the social and economic development of their home countries. The scholarships are offered both for young graduates without professional experience and for mid-career professionals.
What is fundable?
The scholarships are (generally) for two-year Master courses at a German institution of higher education. The successful candidates will study on one of the selected Master courses listed below. The courses have an international orientation and are taught in German and/or English.
The scholarship holders will study in groups and be offered special tutoring at their host institutions. Furthermore, there is the possibility of networking events for participants in different courses and their attendance at tailor-made summer-schools.
Before taking up their Master studies the scholarship holders will be placed on German courses in Germany for normally 6 months (this also applies to scholarship holders in Master courses taught in English).
DAAD pays a monthly scholarship rate of currently 750 €. The scholarship also includes contributions to health insurance in Germany. In addition, DAAD grants an appropriate travel allowance as well as a study and research subsidy and in applicable cases rent subsidies and / or family allowances.
Selection In addition to the study results achieved so far, the main criterion for selection is a convincing description of the subject-related and personal motivation for the study project in Germany and the expected benefit after the return to the home country.
For Master courses taught in German or in German and English, good knowledge of German (ideally at completed A 2 level at the time of application) is an advantage for being able to pass the German language test required for admission to the Master programme at the end of the six-month preparatory German course. For courses taughtin English, proof of good knowledge of English (generally a minimum of 550 TOEFL scores or equivalent) is required.
The university degree should have been obtained during the six years before the application for the scholarship. Applicants cannot be considered if they have been in Germany for more than one year at the time of application.
All Master courses have further additional requirements that must be fulfilled by the applicants at any case.
Application Application papers to be submitted include
• DAAD application form for research grants and studyscholarships (please download here);• Motivation Letter containing a precise description of the applicant’s academic / professional and personal reasons for wishing to participate in the programme;• Full Curriculum Vitae including information about precise field of study and, if applicable, description of job experience;• Recent language certificates giving evidence of your level of proficiency in English (TOEFL, IELTS) and if applicable in German. Please make sure to register in time for the respective tests. Fees for obtaining such certificates areconsidered as a personal career investment and will not be reimbursed.• Two letters of recommendation by university professors and/or current or former employers;• Officially authenticated copies of all certificates.
Further information about the papers to be submitted is listed on the application form which can be also obtained from the Internet (www.daad.de/de/form), from the diplomatic and consular representations of the Federal Republic of Germany or from the local DAAD lecturers, Offices or Information Centres.
DAAD cannot consider incomplete applications.
Applications have to be made for one of the Master courses listed below. You can indicate a second choice from the list. Studying on a Master course not included in the list cannot be funded within this programme.
The decision on the award of scholarships will be taken by a selection committee composed of professors from the Master courses and representatives of DAAD.Deadline The complete set of application papers must be submitted by 31 August 2009 to the usual application address in your home country (in most cases the local DAAD or diplomatic representation).
You will find the exact address to which the application has to be submitted on the DAAD website at country specific information.
You can also ask the German diplomatic and consular representations or the DAAD representatives in your home country.
They can also provide addresses of other institutions in your country to which you could turn for information and advice.
Contact and advice
Further information can be obtained from DAAD Section 444 (public-policy@daad.de).
List of Master courses in the PPGG programme
The following Master courses are funded in the PPGG programme:
University of Duisburg-Essen, MA Development and Governance
Contact person: Ms. Verena Heuking (verena.heuking@uni-due.de)
Erfurt School of Public Policy (ESPP): Master of Public Policy,
Erfurt University
http://www.espp.de/master.html
Contact person: Mr. Kai Ahlborn, M.A. (publicpolicy-at-uni-erfurt.de)
Hertie School of Governance, Berlin:
Master of Public Policy
http://www.hertie-school.org/home.php?nav_id=1980
Contact person: Ms. Katharina Hauser (hauser-at-hertie-school.org)
University of Applied Sciences Osnabrück:
Master Managementin Non-Profit-Organizations
http://www.wiso.fh-osnabrueck.de/index.php?id=9683
Contact persons: Prof. Dr. Rolf Wortmann (r.wortmann-at-fhosnabrueck.de) and Ms. Mechthild Gerdes, M.A. (m.gerdes-at-fhosnabrueck.de)
University of Osnabrück: Master Democratic Governance andCivil Society
http://www.uni-osnabrueck.de/160_12027.html
Contact person: Prof. Dr. Roland Czada (Roland.Czada-at-Uni-Osnabrueck.de)
Please make sure to study the admission requirements of the Master courses.
The DAAD scholarship will only come into effect if you are admitted to the selected Master course. Please find below some general information and links concerning higher education opportunities in Finland. We kindly request you to make sure you go through all the points presented, so as to avoid missing any important information at the start of your application process. HOW TO GET STARTED : The http://www.studyinfinland.fi/ website of CIMO (Centre for International Mobility) is a good starting point for all prospective students. It provides answers to frequently asked questions on studying in Finland, scholarships, traineeships, student life in Finland, etc. The http://www.studyinfinland.fi/ site also includes an 'International Programmes Database' of all the English-language study programmes in Finnish higher education. By browsing the searchable database, you may easily chart what degree programmes are available in English.NB: you can not, however, apply for a study placement to any of these programmes through CIMO. CIMO is not an admissions office, and we can not unfortunately send you any application forms. Please see below for more information on how and where to submit your application. HOW TO APPLY : The Finnish higher education system comprises two complementary sectors: polytechnics (=universities of applied sciences)universities. two sectors have separate admission procedures. Please refer to these two on-line admissions sites for information on how to apply to their English-language programmes:Admissions to Finnish polytechnics (Universities of Applied Sciences). Admissions to Finnish universities (Multi-faculty universities, Universities of Technology, Art Academies)NB: you can usually only apply during certain fixed application periods. Please check the application times and other requirements from the above two admissions sites! The admission offices of the polytechnics and universities can assist you, should you have additional questions concerning the application procedure, admission requirements, etc. The institutions' contact details can be found on the above two admissions sites, as well as on CIMO's http://www.studyinfinland.fi/ site. Those interested in post-Master's level studies (Doctoral studies, research) should contact the universities of their choice directly for information on how toapply. A NOTE ON ELIGIBILITY : Generally speaking, if you have successfully completed your upper secondary education in your home country, you can apply for a Bachelor's degree programmes in Finland. To apply for Master's programmes, you'll need to hold a Bachelor's (or equivalent, usually a min. 3 year degree) in a relevant field. Similarly, if you're considering PhD studies, you need a Master's. In many cases, you will also need official proof of your language skills (TOEFL or IELTS)However, since the detailed eligibility requirements may vary from one programme to another, you should always check the requirements directly from the web pages (or the admissions office) of the institution providing the programme.Remember also that fulfilling the eligibility criteria is, in itself, not a guarantee of receiving a study placement, the admission procedure can be very selective. HOW MUCH DOES STUDYING IN FINLAND COST?Higher education in Finland is free of charge, i.e. there are no tuition fees in the regular degree programmes. However, please note that since the Finnish government does not, as a rule, offer any financial assistance to foreign Bachelor's or Master's level students in Finland, you will still need to cover the cost of your everyday living expences in Finland yourself. The average living costs of a student in Finland are approx. 700 euros per month. Please also see the 'visas and residence permits' section below for the financial requirements concerning student residence permits.SCHOLARSHIPSCIMO has a number of different scholarship programmes for post-Master's level studies and research at Finnish universities For information on these scholarship programmes and the application procedures, please see the Scholarships section at http://www.studyinfinland.fi/ NB: CIMO has no scholarships available for Bachelor's or Master's level studies in Finland. STUDYING FINNISH / SWEDISH: The Finnish universities do not currently offer any "language preparation year" options, that is, if you'd like to study in Finnish or Swedish (our two national languages), you would need to be fairly fluent in them already when applying for a study placement. For general info on language courses, please see e.g. this web page:http://opintoluotsi.fi/en-GB/Studying_Finnish/(for further info you need to contact the course providers directly)However, if you are accepted as a degree student to some Finnish higher education institution, you may usually include Finnish or Swedish language studies into your degree. These are mainly offered by the language centre (or equivalent) of each institution, on various starting levels. You can find more info on these courses on the university websites.Learning the local language(s) not only makes your everyday life easier, it also helps you "feel at home" and may also increase your chances of finding employment! STUDENT HEALTH INSURANCE (NON-EU CITZENS)Very important information for non-EU citizens applying for studies in Finland: in order to obtain a student residence permit, all non-EU students need to have a valid health insurance cover with a reliable and solvent company or institution. A student must have insurance cover when applying for a residence permit as without it a residence permit cannot be granted. Please refer to the Finnish Immigration Service website for more detailed information about the health insurance requirement: http://www.migri.fi/ -> English -> Students -> Non-EU citizens.VISAS, RESIDENCE PERMITSFor information on visas, student residence permits and other immigration-related issues/requirements, you can contact either the Finnish embassy in your home country (http://formin.finland.fi/english -> Diplomatic missions) or the Finnish Immigration Service

FOR MORE VISIT OUR CORPORATE SITE ON THIS AT : http://www.studyinfinlandnow.blogspot.com/

MANDELLA RHODES SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM FOR 2009

Documents to accompany your application for scholarship

1. Certified copy of birth certificate
It is a requirement of the Mandela Rhodes Scholarships that all applicants are citizens of African countries.
